Join HYPE at the Economic Summit!

HYPE members,

You won’t believe everything that’s going on!

First and foremost, register TODAY for the Economic Summit (Tuesday, Oct. 20, 8 a.m.-1:45 p.m.). Everyone who pre-registers is invited to a networking reception the night before (Monday, Oct. 19, 6-8 p.m.) at the Carnegie’s Old Soldiers Ballroom. Jose Castillo’s band, Frito Puentes, will provide live music, and there will be an open bar!

Then, at the Summit, get ready for the debut of our Holler! video … Jose and company have been working hard on this production, which will feature man-on-the-street style responses to important questions about our economic future. You will have a chance to answer the Holler! survey questions when you register for the Summit. The idea is to take the pulse of our community about our community and to convey some new, creative ideas from people (like you!) who are all about change and progress.

Sign up for any focus group that interests you but remember that the Business Development group will take on an “intergenerational” focus and will deal with several upcoming initiatives including Will This Float? and HYPE’s brand-new Co-Mentoring Project!

Which brings us to … co-mentoring! HYPE and the Chamber of Commerce are excited to launch this new initiative that will link professionals in our area so that each can learn from the other (as opposed to a traditional mentor-mentee format). There are no age categories – no “older” professionals showing the ropes to the “younger” sect. We can all learn from each other and need to in order to survive in the workplace, and this co-mentoring idea is built around that idea. Summit attendees will be able to fill out applications for co-mentoring at the Summit, and we hope all HYPE members will get involved! The response to this idea has been overwhelmingly positive, and we want all of you to be part of a meaningful and lasting initiative.

Whew! And that’s just the beginning – there’s already so much more in the works for the rest of the year. Please feel free to e-mail Keisha at kbruce@johnsoncitytn.org if you have any questions and go to www.economicsummit.org to register now! We really want a strong showing at this event … let’s not sit around, talking about the same ol’, same ol’ – let’s do something!
